If you’re fond of nature, then I really suggest the closest salt flats – here you’ll witness how salt is made with the same methods as were used many years ago.

The Ria de Aveiro itself isn’t only beautiful, but it’s home to many different world of birds, too. Birdwatching is one of my favorite things to do, and it’s just so peaceful!

Art Nouveau

Aveiro’s old town is home to some wonderful examples of Art Nouveau architecture. The buildings have very INTRICATE designs, and some even have lovely tiles which you’ll notice as you walk by. The colours and patterns are quite simply AMAZING!! If you’re like me, then you’ll suddenly stop and take loads of photographs. The Museu de Arte Nova is a fantastic place to read this rather unique style a bit more closely.

The buildings in the immediate area of the Praça do Peixe (Fish Square) are my personal favorites to look at. The area has that completely OLD-FASHIONED feel, which combines perfectly with the very LIVELY atmosphere of the city itself.

Ovos moles

No trip to Aveiro is ever complete without their famous sweets, especially the ovos moles. These sweet things themselves are made from egg yolks and sugar, and have been an integral part of Aveiro’s history for centuries. I well recall my very first taste – it was so sweet and richly flavored. You’ll find ovos moles in lots of very small shops all over the city, so make sure you get hold of a box or two. Believe me, you won’t regret it.

Beaches

If you’re a fan of the beach, then Aveiro itself has some quite special accessories. The nearby beaches, such as Praia da Barra and Costa Nova, are perfect for the sun and sea. Costa Nova is famous for its extremely COLORFUL striped houses, and I always love taking a stroll along the beach here. The water itself will be a little cool, but it’s absolutely perfect for that refreshing dip on a very hot day!

Museums

Aveiro is full of museums that tell the most interesting story of its incredibly RICH history. I personally highly recommend the Museu de Aveiro, located within an old convent building. The museum is full of interesting displays about Aveiro’s history, from its salt work to its up as a city in the 19th century.

If you’re interested in history, this museum is a must-see. I’ve spent hours here exploring, and I always discover something new every time I visit.

“Moliceiro” boats

One of the most interesting sights in Aveiro is the moliceiro boats. These boats themselves have a very rainbow and unique design and have been used for centuries to collect seaweed from the lagoon. I find it really quite cool watching them glide effortlessly through the canals, each boat decorated with the most vibrant colors and with some very creative designs.

The weather is pretty great too. Oaxaca has those really PLEASANT temperatures all year round, so I always really enjoy my time outdoors. Whether I’m in my backyard or elsewhere in the city, the weather is always perfectly suited.

And the food itself is amazing. Oaxaca is renowned for dishes like mole and tlayudas. The food here’s quite DELICIOUS and very different from anything I’ve ever had before. Imagine that fresh, very tasty food is just near your home. It’s like a dream come true!

My home search

Initially, I was worried about a home in Oaxaca. But it turned out to be a lot of fun! The real estate agents were friendly and ready to help. I never had any problems with homes that met my needs. What surprised me, though, was how welcome everyone was. I really felt comfortable getting to know the homes and the area itself.

I went to look at several homes that I actually really liked. The homes themselves were beautiful, big, and really fit with everything I wanted — in fact, even more than I’d imagined. The best part is how really beautiful everything’s. Oaxaca itself is the ultimate dream destination for any photographer. I really love pictures of the colorful streets, houses and natural scenery. It feels just like a dream!

Every time I need a break from my home here, I plan a trip out into the region itself. Oaxaca has so many incredibly beautiful places and I love the area around it. There are really quite a few very charming towns worth visiting – plus the natural scenery is simply amazing.
