If you find yourself with 5 days to spend in Washington, D.C., you’re in for a treat! The capital is home to HUMMING neighborhoods with cool shops, food, and interesting history, alongside its monuments and museums.

Day 1

National Mall. Start your trip with a visit to the National Mall– it’s the heart of the city and where you’ll find many of its most famous sights: the Lincoln Memorial , Washington Monument, and Capitol Building. Take a walk along the Reflecting Pool and see the National World War II Memorial . There are also lots of FREE museums to check out here, such as the National Museum of American History and the National Air and Space Museum.

Day 2

Smithsonian Museums. Spend day two at some more of the Smithsonian museums. These are all free, and there’s PLENTY to keep you INTERESTED at the National Museum of Natural History (don’t miss the dinosaur display!).

Day 3

Memorials. Start your day with a visit to three ICONIC memorials: the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, and the FDR Memorial. They’re all located around the PICTURESQUE Tidal Basin, which is great for a walk or bike ride.

Day 4

White House & Georgetown. No trip to D.C. is complete without a visit to the White House. Take some photos from outside (you need a booking if you want to go inside), then head to Georgetown for a stroll along the C&O Canal, followed by a spot of shopping and dinner in one of its many TRENDY restaurants.

Day 5

Zoo & Capitol Hill. Take a break from sightseeing with a morning at the National Zoo, which is home to giant pandas as well as lots of other animals. In the afternoon, go to Capitol Hill for a look around the Capitol Building– you may be able to join a tour! Short on time? Here are some ways to make the most of just a few days in DC!! Weekend Plan: If you only have a weekend in Washington, D.C., then don’t worry– there are still plenty of things to see! Try this: On Day 1, visit the National Mall and see the monuments; on Day 2, investigate Smithsonian museums and take photos of the White House; spend Day 3 in Georgetown (a charming neighborhood) and go to the National Zoo. Whether you’re in town for five days or just a weekend, there’s plenty to see and do. Just don’t forget one thing– COMFORTABLE shoes!
